The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has launched the Renewed Hope Cash Empowerment Programme for Persons with Disabilities in Yobe State, with 50 beneficiaries from Potiskum Local Government Area receiving cash grants in the first phase.
The initiative, represented by Haruna Tata Buduwa, is aimed at strengthening small businesses, improving livelihoods and promoting economic independence among Persons with Disabilities. The programme is expected to be extended to other Local Government Areas across the state.
Abba Isa also disclosed that his office recently facilitated 20 FarmerMoni grants for Persons with Disabilities across Yobe State, with beneficiaries drawn from all 17 Local Government Areas to promote equitable access to economic opportunities.
Speaking through his representative, the SSA reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to disability inclusion under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that empowering Persons with Disabilities is not charity but an investment in human capital, economic growth and national development.
He also called for the full implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, including the statutory five per cent employment and appointment quota for Persons with Disabilities in public institutions.
