President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development and named disability rights advocate, Lois Auta, as a member of the Centre’s newly constituted Governing Council.
The appointments, which have been applauded by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), are seen as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive leadership and representation of persons with disabilities in governance and policy-making processes.
In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Barr. Ayuba Gufwan, the Commission congratulated Ms. Laniyi on her appointment and expressed confidence in her ability to strengthen the Centre’s mandate of promoting gender equality, women empowerment, and inclusive development.
The Commission also congratulated the newly inaugurated Governing Council chaired by Princess Joan Jummai Idonije, while particularly applauding the inclusion of Lois Auta as a member of the Council.
According to Gufwan, the appointment of Lois Auta represents a significant milestone for the disability community and sends a strong message that persons with disabilities deserve representation in decision-making spaces where policies affecting women, families, and national development are formulated.
“We are confident that under your leadership, the Centre will deepen its mandate to promote gender equality, empower women, and advance inclusive development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. NCPWD looks forward to strengthening collaboration with the Centre to ensure that women and girls with disabilities are fully integrated into all programmes and initiatives,” he said.
He further assured the appointees of the Commission’s readiness to collaborate in advancing the rights, dignity, and inclusion of all Nigerians, while wishing them a successful tenure in office.
