As part of Data Lead Africa’s commitment to promoting inclusion in digital technology, the Deaf-in-Tech team of the organization held a three-day leadership training for executives of the Abuja Association of the Deaf (AAD).
This visionary leadership team of the Abuja deaf community will be equipped with knowledge on digital technology for onward empowerment of the deaf community.
The workshop, which took place from April 4th to 6th, 2023, aimed to empower the executives to effectively administer the association and equip them with relevant skills and knowledge to achieve defined goals.
Participants at the training had hands-on learning experiences covering a variety of courses including Emotional Intelligence, Inclusive Leadership, Team Building, Effective Communication, Grant Proposal Writing, Strategic Planning and Decision-Making. Others are Change Management, Networking, Advocacy, and Financial Management.
Furthermore, the training was designed to help the leaders make informed and better decisions on their vision, goals, and plans for effective administration and management. This was done by providing practical training applicable in real-world settings.
Dr. Arowolo Ayoola
In an interview with INN, Lead Partner and Co-Founder of Data Lead Africa, Dr. Arowolo Ayoola Abimbola, the visionary leader and the convener of Deaf in Tech, reiterated that leadership is everything.
Arowolo emphasized that to create change in the deaf community, it is necessary to start with the newly elected executives by introducing them to cross-cutting issues around inclusion and social initiatives.
According to the lead partner, the training would also help hearing people better understand Deaf culture and how they could fit in.
AAD Chairman, Mr. Ayoade Beyioku-Alase, on behalf of executives and stakeholders of the Abuja Deaf community, appreciated Data Lead Africa and Dr. Arowolo Ayoola for creating this great opportunity for AAD.
Ayoade said: “This was one of the kindest gestures AAD has ever received”.
He believes the executive council of AAD now have better understanding of the importance of being updated on efficient digital approaches to managing the association and pursuing defined goals.
