The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured people with disabilities (PWDs) of providing assistive voting devices for the 2023 gubernatorial elections.
The Joint National Association of Persons with Disability (JONAPWD) had earlier complained on the poor treatment of their members during the election.
The association advised INEC to assist them in the electoral process by providing interpreter for people with hearing challenges, braille ballot paper for the visually impaired people etc.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye disclosed the special preparations made for PWDs.
He spoke on Wednesday at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abeokuta during the disbursement of sensitive materials for the governorship election.
Ijalaye stated that materials meant for PWDs have been provided at every polling unit where they registered.
He said “Adequate materials have been prepared for the people with disabilities. For example, we have brailles for people who have sight problems for those who can use them.
“We equally have posters for deaf who can see. We have other assistive materials that will assist people with disabilities.”
