The Pioneer Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC), Hon. Saleh Barde Keana, has called for stronger collaboration with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Non-Governmental Organizations and Disaster Management to improve humanitarian support for persons with disabilities (PWDs) across the state.
Keana made the call during a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Non-Governmental Organizations and Disaster Management, Hon. Muhammad Baba Shehu, at his office in Lafia.
The NSDRC chairman said the visit was organised to congratulate Baba Shehu on his appointment by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, and to introduce the Commission, its mandate and activities to the Ministry’s leadership.
He described the commissioner’s appointment as well-deserved, citing his wealth of experience in public service and politics. He expressed confidence that his leadership would contribute to peace, effective administration and development within the Ministry.
Keana explained that the Commission is responsible for promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, as well as advancing their inclusion, empowerment and integration in line with the vision of the Sule administration.
He stressed that collaboration between the Commission and the Ministry was essential, noting that both institutions share a common responsibility to support vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.
The NSDRC chairman consequently solicited the Ministry’s support in humanitarian interventions, empowerment programmes, disaster relief for persons with disabilities and the development of strategic partnerships to strengthen disability inclusion across Nasarawa State.
He expressed optimism that closer cooperation between the two institutions would improve access to humanitarian services and ensure that persons with disabilities benefit from government interventions.
