The Taraba State House of Assembly has conducted a public hearing, setting the stage for the enactment of two critical bills: the Taraba State Disabilities Commission (Establishment Bill 2024) and the Taraba State Prohibition Against Human Trafficking (Establishment Bill 2024).
The Adinya Arise Foundation (AAF) has hailed the event as a pivotal moment in the pursuit of social justice and human rights in the state. Leading advocacy efforts under the USAID Palladium SCALE project, AAF has played a significant role in driving legislative progress through its Counter Trafficking in Persons (CTIP) Commission Cluster initiative.
Describing the hearing as “groundbreaking,” AAF’s Executive Director, Mrs. Mabel Adinya Ade, expressed optimism about the transformative potential of these bills for the people of Taraba. Speaking to reporters after the hearing, she extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Agbu Kefas and the State House of Assembly for their proactive leadership and commitment to critical social issues.
“The passage of these bills represents a historic moment for Taraba,” said Mrs. Ade. “It reflects a dedication to restoring dignity, rights, and justice for those impacted by discrimination and trafficking. Our advocacy aims to ensure that every Taraba citizen is empowered to live free from exploitation and marginalization.”
Mrs. Ade also highlighted AAF’s enduring commitment to human rights advocacy, even after the conclusion of the USAID-funded project, emphasizing the organization’s resolve to see these bills passed into law.
As the bills progress to a final plenary hearing, stakeholders are confident that Taraba will continue to set an example for other states, reinforcing a collective commitment to human rights, equality, and justice.
During a recent conference in Abuja, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enacting the Anti-Trafficking Bill. He noted that this collaborative effort between the legislative and executive branches underscores a broader strategy to combat human trafficking and safeguard the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.
The public hearing represents a crucial step in the legislative process. Upon enactment, the bills will not only safeguard vulnerable populations in Taraba but also serve as a benchmark for inclusive governance across Nigeria.

A very great news to people with disabilities in Taraba State. His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is a Disability friendly governor ever witnessed in the state since it’s established. We believe he will do it within his reach once the Bill is set for implementation by the state House of Assembly.
It will be joyous moment for the persons with disabilities in Taraba State when the disabilities Commission shall be established. We are fervently praying that this will be done by our governor because our hope is in him and he have us in heart. Moreso, the life of persons with disabilities in Taraba will be transformed to high standards of life. Social, socio-economic, employment, etc, will be accessible to all.
