The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has congratulated the Executive Director of the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) and Chairman of the Abia State Disability Commission, Hon. David Obinna Anyaele, on the successful award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
Anyaele received the doctorate at the university’s 15th Postgraduate Convocation and Doctor of Philosophy Hooding Ceremony, marking another significant milestone in his distinguished career as a scholar and leading disability rights advocate.
In a congratulatory message, Abba Isa described the academic achievement as a fitting recognition of Anyaele’s unwavering commitment to scholarship, disability rights advocacy and the promotion of inclusive development in Nigeria. He noted that the honour reflects years of dedication to advancing knowledge and championing the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The Presidential aide commended Anyaele’s decades of service in promoting the dignity, welfare and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, stressing that his contributions have played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s disability inclusion agenda.
He particularly recalled Anyaele’s role, alongside other disability advocates and stakeholders, in the successful campaign for the passage of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, which paved the way for the establishment of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).
According to Abba Isa, the attainment of a PhD further demonstrates Anyaele’s passion for excellence, lifelong learning and evidence-based advocacy. He expressed confidence that the academic accomplishment would enhance his capacity to provide thought leadership, influence public policy and advance disability inclusion both within Nigeria and internationally.
Abba Isa prayed for God’s continued guidance, good health and greater wisdom for the renowned advocate, wishing him sustained success in his academic, professional and advocacy pursuits. He also encouraged the new doctorate holder to remain steadfast in his commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable and accessible society for all Nigerians.
