In a landmark event at the SPED auditorium hall in Oyo State, Queen Olamide Lawal emerged victorious in the general elections for the presidential position of the National Association of Deaf Students (NADS) Chapter of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.
Olamide, a 200 level student of the college, secured her win with 26 votes, narrowly defeating Emmanuel Oluwafemi, who garnered 23 votes.
Olamide’s victory marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first female to emerge the president in the history of the association. Her achievement is a testament to her dedication, leadership, and the support she has garnered from her peers.
She will be taking over the reins from the outgoing president, Erinsho Qoozim Oluwadamilare, and her inauguration ceremony is scheduled for September 2024 at the school. This event is anticipated to be a momentous occasion, celebrating not only the transition of leadership but also the strides made in representation and empowerment within the deaf community.
Beyond her academic and leadership pursuits, Queen Olamide Lawal is also the reigning Miss Ogun, having won the prestigious beauty pageant. She was the treasurer of the Association in 2022-2023, and now the social director in 2023-2024 as the CRC member.
