People with disabilities under the aegis of Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) on Wednesday stormed the office of the Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta over the appointment of Mrs Adijat A. Adelaye as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.

The Chairman of Association, Dr Ebonhor Michael, while speaking with newsmen disclosed that the group had not stormed the governor’s office to halt activities but to appreciate Abiodun for appointing Honourable (Mrs) Adijat Adeleye as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development for the second term.

INN reports that Hon. Adijat Adeleye was one of the 20 commissioners sworn in by Governor Abiodun on October 13, 2023 to serve in his cabinet for the second term.

Dr. Ebonhor described the appointment of Hon. Adeleye as a square peg in a square hole.

He stated that the demonstration was the association’s way of expressing appreciation to Adeleye who, according to Ebonhor, has always identified with disabled people in the state.

Ebonhor equally disclosed that Hon Adijat Adeleye sponsored the bill against discrimination for persons with disability while serving as a lawmaker in the state’s House of Assembly

He said “We are here to appreciate the governor for reappointing Hon. Adijat Adeleye as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and social development because Hon Adijat has long been identifying with us. She is one of those that sponsored the bill for people living with disabilities in Ogun state.

They also reminded the governor of his promises to appoint a special adviser on people with disability and provision of bus for the conveyance of members of the association in the state.

This group of person with disability, carried placards with various inscriptions such as; “Thank You Mr governor for appointing Hon Adijat Adeleye as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development”, “Our governor, remember you promise to appoint a special advisers on people with disability”, “remember your promise to donate bus to people with special needs” amongst others.
