Network of Women with Disabilities (NWD) has trained over 50 women and girls with Disabilities in Southern Kaduna for self reliance.
The three months training project was funded by Women in Humanitarian Response Initiative, WiHRiNI, with support from Feminist Humanitarian Network, FHN. Beneficiaries were empowered on different skills such as tailoring, Knitting, soap making and beats making.
At the graduation ceremony of the trainees held at Kagoro in Kaura Local Government Area, Mrs Rose Daniel, Vice President of Network for Women with Disabilities stated that women with disabilities have alot of potentials that must be harnessed by them and society to better their lives.
She said the training was intended to make the Beneficiaries self dependent to cope with challenges of survival.
Mrs Daniel expressed the hope that the trainees will take advantage of the training and improve their living conditions.
Also speaking, the Wazirin Kagoro, Chief David Peter said disability does not in anyway, translate to lack of ability.
He appreciated the organizers of the training and called on the members of the society to support the trainees to actualize their dreams.
Similarly, Mrs Florence Aya, a former lawmaker representing Kaura Federal constituency, urged the trainees not to be discouraged but endeavour to keep their dreams alive through the knowledge acquired during the training.
According to her, by empowering women and girls with disabilities, a more inclusive society where everyone has equal opportunity to reach their full potentials is created.
Also speaking, Mr Habila Anthony, chairman of persons with disabilities in Southern Kaduna, said the project has helped to promote social inclusion by creating a platform for women and girls with disabilities to interact, share experiences and build relationships.
Anthony enjoined the beneficiaries to put their newly acquired skills to good use and also step down the training to those around them not privileged to be part of the exercise.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed gratitude to the founder of the NGO, Lois Auta, for always looking out for persons with disabilities.
They called on the government and other stakeholders to provide the necessary support to ensure they access funding to set up their businesses.
The graduation ceremony which coincided with the International Women’s Day drew participants from Jaba, Zangon Kataf, Jema’a and Kaura Local Government Areas.
The NGO presented starter packs to best three beneficiaries in each skills, the beneficiaries are as follows;

Other beneficiaries who could not emerged as the best three will be given cash gift to encourage them.
