The National Executive Committee of the Nigeria National Association of the Deaf NNAD, under the leadership of Hon Dr. Chidi Topaz Olujie (Majidadin Kuramen Arewa), has prioritized organizing the first-of-its-kind ‘Special Congress’ to make room for the final adoption of NNAD’s constitution in Abuja.
This was disclosed by the NNAD’s National President, Hon. Dr. Chidi Olujie during an online National Executive Council (NEC) meeting he personally chaired on Tuesday night.
In the meeting which housed states chairmen, secretaries, PROs, and National Executive Members of NNAD, Dr. Olujie drew the attention of the audience on the need to plunge into action to facilitate the final adoption of the NNAD’s constitution.
He said, “You may recall at AGM in Lafia, we were supposed to adopt the constitution. But the time left was very short. And we were not able to read out all the amendments, addition and subtraction of section from the constitution.”
According to him, “adopting our constitution is very important, instead of waiting till next AGM. We will have a special congress coming up early next year before the AGM. And that will be at Abuja.”
“For the special congress, we are going to have; Chairmen, Secretaries, Youth leaders and Women leaders from the 36 states plus FCT and they will be mainly invited for the purpose of congress only.”
“We will send you letters very soon. And I pray we will get support so we can provide something like accommodation, but for now, we don’t want to promise. Just want you all to be aware. That’s all for today,” he added.
INN reports that the adoption of the constitution was earlier scheduled to hold during the Lafiya AGM but was postponed due to the inability of state branches/ affiliated Associations to review and communicate their feedback to NNAD.
