Netizens with disabilities across Nigeria have called for the extension of the proposed FCT Disability Policy to all 36 states of the federation, saying persons with disabilities outside Abuja also deserve equal protection, inclusion, and government support.
The reactions followed a social media post by Inclusive News Network quoting the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Mohammed Abba Isa, who said the proposed policy would positively impact over 400,000 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Abba Isa, the policy, once fully implemented, would strengthen the protection of disability rights, improve accessibility, promote economic empowerment, and ensure inclusive governance in the FCT. However, many Nigerians living with disabilities expressed concern that similar policies are yet to be fully replicated in other states across the country.
Reacting to the development, one of the netizens, Nnachette Judith Ijeoma Nnebife, said: “I hope the policy will get to those of us outside Abuja. Life is no longer friendly at all — no car, no leg, no money, no transport fare. Please, I am begging whoever is making this decision to remember persons with disabilities living outside Abuja.”
