As Nigeria proudly celebrates its 64th Independence anniversary today, October 1, 2024, in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Chief Ayuba Gufwan, extends heartfelt recognition to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the entire community of Persons with Disabilities across the nation.
“In this momentous celebration, it is crucial to recognize that the greatest virtue we can uphold is the unity of purpose,” Chief Gufwan emphasized.
“Our collective strength as a nation is deeply rooted in our unity. By standing together, we can continue to strive for peace, security, and prosperity—not only for all Nigerians but especially for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.”
The Executive Secretary further expressed his deep appreciation for President Tinubu’s steadfast commitment to the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities in Nigeria. He highlighted the president’s numerous initiatives and policies aimed at enhancing the lives of those living with disabilities.
Reflecting on President Tinubu’s endorsement of the Instrument of Ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa, Gufwan praised this as a significant step towards change. This protocol, which was adopted during the Thirtieth Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa on January 29, 2018, is seen as a bold testament to teamwork. “Collaboration remains key to realizing the transformative impact we seek,” Gufwan added.
