In a collaborative effort led by the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission and the Haske Children’s Foundation, children with disabilities from various communities across Nasarawa State, along with students from the Nasarawa State Comprehensive Special School in Lafia, received essential medical care through a free outreach program.
This initiative, which offers vital medical services, screenings, and health education, aims to bolster government efforts in the health sector.
Fatima Buhari, Founder of Haske Children’s Foundation, expressed her commitment to supporting these efforts. “We understand that the government cannot do it alone, which is why we partnered with the Nasarawa State Disabilities Commission.
“This outreach is a pilot project, and we hope to expand it nationwide. We are thrilled to have chosen Nasarawa State as our starting point and grateful for the Disability Commission’s tremendous support.”
The outreach provided screenings and treatment for a range of conditions, including typhoid, malaria, vision and hearing impairments, joint issues, and other diagnosed ailments.
Saleh Barde, Chairman of the Nasarawa Disability Rights Commission, praised the initiative as a significant advancement in addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities within the state.
“This event is a critical step forward in ensuring that the challenges faced by people with disabilities are effectively addressed in Nasarawa. It aligns with the Governor’s vision to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities. Our commitment, as leaders of this commission, is to fulfill this important mandate responsibly.”
Nasarawa State’s Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, also visited the facility to inspect the program’s progress, pledging the government’s continued support for similar initiatives.
Organizers expressed their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children with special needs and assured that this health intervention will continue as an ongoing effort to improve the wellbeing of these children.
