Misbahu Lawan Didi, who was recently named Secretary, Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Mobilisation II of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and decision to rejoin the APC.
Didi made the disclosure in a public notice, in which he informed the general public and APC stakeholders of his decision to return to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said his decision to rejoin the APC was aimed at enabling him to continue contributing to the success and victory of the party at all levels in the forthcoming elections.
The development comes against the backdrop of concerns recently raised over the composition of the APC’s PWD mobilisation structure, particularly the inclusion of Didi amid allegations by the Forum of APC Women with Disabilities that he was no longer an APC member.
The forum had, in its August 22, 2026 petition to the APC leadership, alleged that Didi had left the party for the ADC in 2021/2022 and questioned his inclusion in the Presidential Campaign Council while women with disabilities were allegedly excluded.
Didi’s latest statement, however, confirms that he had been associated with the ADC but has now formally announced his resignation from the party and return to the APC.
In the statement addressed to the public and APC stakeholders, including the Chairman of the APC City Centre Ward, the FCT APC State Chairman and the APC National Chairman, Didi described himself as the Pioneer APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities.
His return to the APC comes as the party prepares its mobilisation structures for the 2027 presidential election, with four individuals listed under the PWD mobilisation directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council.
They are Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa as Director, PWD Mobilisation; Barrister Ayuba Gufwan as Deputy Director, PWD Mobilisation; Hon. Tolu Bankole as Secretary, PWD Mobilisation I; and Misbahu Lawan Didi as Secretary, PWD Mobilisation II.
The composition of the structure has generated debate within the disability community, with concerns raised over the dominance of persons with physical disabilities, the absence of women with disabilities and the lack of apparent representation for other disability groups, including Deaf persons, blind persons and persons with albinism.
The Forum of APC Women with Disabilities had particularly called for a review of the campaign council list, arguing that women with disabilities who had contributed to the party’s mobilisation and electoral activities deserved representation in the strategic campaign structure.
The forum also questioned the inclusion of Tolu Bankole, with some members raising concerns about whether he meets the criteria for representation under the PWD mobilisation structure. The issue remains a matter requiring clarification from the relevant individuals and the APC leadership.
Didi’s latest declaration addresses one aspect of the controversy by publicly confirming his return to the APC. It also puts the focus back on the broader question of how the party intends to ensure equitable representation of the diverse disability community within its campaign structure.
With Persons with Disabilities constituting a significant constituency in Nigeria’s electoral landscape, disability advocates have continued to call for inclusive political participation that reflects diversity in disability, gender and geographical representation.
The APC leadership is therefore expected to address the concerns surrounding its PWD mobilisation structure as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
Didi, meanwhile, said his return to the APC was motivated by his desire to contribute to the party’s success and victory at all levels in the forthcoming general elections.
