The Women Environment Program (WEP) has sought partnership with the Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission (NSDRC) to facilitate the implementation of its “Transforming Her Resilience, Inclusion and Value in Economies” (THRIVE) Project in the state.
The organisation made the request during a strategic courtesy visit to the NSDRC Chairman, Hon. Saleh Barde Keana.
Leading the WEP delegation, Mr. John Baaki said the organisation was seeking the Commission’s collaboration to kick-start the implementation of the THRIVE Project, which is designed to promote economic empowerment and inclusion among Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerable groups.
Baaki explained that the project would empower beneficiaries to become self-sufficient through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
He added that THRIVE would strengthen the economic resilience and livelihoods of women through entrepreneurship development, financial inclusion, business skills development, as well as improved access to markets and other economic opportunities.
Responding, the NSDRC Chairman appreciated WEP for its efforts toward promoting equal opportunities and for selecting Nasarawa State as one of the locations for the project.
Barde noted that the decision to implement the project in Nasarawa was appropriate, given the state’s commitment to advancing disability inclusion and promoting the rights and participation of Persons with Disabilities.
He pledged the Commission’s full support and partnership with WEP to ensure the successful implementation of the project in the state.
According to him, the objectives of the THRIVE Project are consistent with the policy direction of the Nasarawa State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule.
The Chairman assured the delegation that the Commission would work closely with WEP and other stakeholders to ensure that the project achieves its intended objectives and delivers meaningful economic opportunities to beneficiaries.
