by Inclusive News Network

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the rights and inclusion of children with disabilities through its Children’s Day programme, themed “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Ndubuisi Kanu Park, Alausa, Ikeja.

Welcoming participants, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, encouraged children, parents, caregivers, and other guests to enjoy the celebration while appreciating the unwavering commitment of parents and caregivers who continue to support children with disabilities despite the challenges they face.

Delivering a lecture titled “Taking Care of Special Children,” Dr. Bisola Olufolajimi-Idowu, Lead Facilitator of Gilead Initiatives, highlighted the importance of safeguarding the health of children with disabilities, especially during the rainy season. She emphasized the need for a safe home environment, proper nutrition, adequate hydration, and emotional support to ensure the overall well-being of every child.

Also speaking, Mrs. Mavis Isokpehi, Founder of Victoria Intellectual Disability Foundation, shared her personal journey as the mother of a child with a disability while delivering a talk titled “Encouraging Mothers of Children with Special Needs.” She urged parents and caregivers to remain resilient, embrace available opportunities, and never lose hope.

Responding to questions from journalists, Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal said the Lagos State Government has both short-term and long-term plans to improve the lives of children with disabilities through enhanced education, healthcare, and accessible transportation. She also stressed that effective data collection and collaboration among stakeholders are essential to developing sustainable policies that truly leave no child behind.

The event featured games, competitions, and other recreational activities, creating an atmosphere of joy, fun, and inclusion for children and their families.
