In a move to foster inclusive governance and eliminate financial barriers in politics, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a full waiver of nomination fees for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) vying for elective positions in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12.
According to the party’s electoral guidelines unveiled on Tuesday, aspirants with disabilities seeking to contest for chairmanship or councillorship positions across the state’s 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will receive nomination forms at no cost.
The initiative is part of the APC’s broader commitment to ensuring that marginalized groups, especially individuals living with disabilities, are not excluded from participating in the democratic process due to financial constraints.
In contrast, other aspirants will be required to pay a nomination fee of N5 million for chairmanship positions, along with an additional N500,000 administrative fee. However, a concession has been made for women and youth candidates, who will pay only half of the standard nomination fee.
The party further stated that all aspirants must present stamped receipts of payment before collecting their nomination forms.
