The Kebbi State Persons With Disabilities Commission has strengthened collaboration with the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to ensure persons with disabilities across the state have equitable access to healthcare services.
The Chairman of the Commission, Anas Malami Gwandu, disclosed this during a courtesy and advocacy visit to KECHEMA, where he led members of the Commission’s Board and Directors to engage the agency on improving healthcare access for persons with disabilities across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Gwandu said the initiative followed the approval by the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for the enrolment of 50,000 vulnerable persons into the KECHEMA healthcare scheme.
According to him, under the arrangement, 30 persons with disabilities from each of the 225 wards across Kebbi State will be enrolled in the programme, translating to 6,750 persons with disabilities who will gain access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
The Commission Chairman expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for what he described as compassionate and inclusive leadership, noting that the initiative represents a significant step towards improving the welfare and social protection of persons with disabilities in the state.
He also commended the management of KECHEMA for its commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are not excluded from government healthcare interventions.
Gwandu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working closely with the Kebbi State Government and KECHEMA to ensure seamless registration, effective sensitisation and proper monitoring of the programme.
He stressed that the Commission would continue to advocate for policies and programmes that promote equal opportunities and ensure that no person with disability is left behind in access to essential public services.
