The Special Assistant on Disabled Matters to the Katsina State Governor, Umar Jibril Bindawa, has called for greater collaboration between the state’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and persons with disabilities (PWDs). During an official visit to the Katsina State NDLEA Commander, Bindawa advocated for the active inclusion of PWDs in drug prevention, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation programs.
He emphasized the Katsina State Government’s commitment, under Governor Mallam Umar Dikko Radda, PhD, to improving the lives of PWDs. He urged NDLEA to involve PWDs in drug education efforts, train law enforcement officers on disability-inclusive practices, and ensure rehabilitation centers are accessible. Bindawa also called for employment opportunities within NDLEA for qualified PWDs.
Responding to these recommendations, NDLEA State Commander Muhammad Abubakar assured that the agency is committed to fostering an inclusive drug enforcement strategy. He acknowledged the valuable contributions PWDs can make in drug prevention and community outreach and pledged to advocate for their inclusion in NDLEA programs.
Abubakar further stated that NDLEA would integrate disability awareness training into its personnel development programs. This initiative aims to equip officers with the skills needed to engage effectively with PWDs, ensuring they receive appropriate support during enforcement and rehabilitation processes.
He reaffirmed NDLEA’s commitment to working closely with the Office of the Special Assistant on Disabled Matters and other stakeholders to create a more inclusive and impactful drug enforcement system in Katsina State.
