- Daily Trust Newspaper was honoured for being a disability-friendly newspaper
- The Newspaper was recognized for its services to disabled individuals in the country- in the areas of news reporting, publication of disability-centered articles and support of people with disabilities
- Among others, at the IDPWDs were awards presentation and merriments.
The Deaf resource Centre (DRC) has honoured Daily Trust newspaper in recognition of her services to disabled persons in the country.
The award was part of activities marking the 2017 International Day of Persons living with disabilities held on 3rd December 2017 in Abuja.
The Executive Director of the Centre, Timothy Tinat said the event was to seek support for people with disabilities that account for about 25 million in Nigeria, and 1 billion persons in the world.
Tinat added that people living with disabilities have continued to struggle for equality of life as the Disability Bill has been in the National Assembly for 17 years without being passed.
Supported by the United States embassy in Nigeria, the Deaf Resource Centre has, over the years, been coordinating the affairs of persons with disabilities, in particular, the deaf.
Speaking at the event, United States Cultural Affairs Officer, Mr. Lawrence J. Socha said the lives of people with disabilities can be enhanced through Inclusive governance.
