Special Assistant to the Governor, Mr. Lawali Mgudu has begged Governor Matawalle to include persons with disabilities in his Empowerment programme.
In a speech delivered during one of the occasion of their meetings with the Governor, Mr Lawali said “Your Excellency sir, permit me to address some of the challenges our people with disabilities are facing in the state. The greatest Challenges militating against the development of PWDs is lack of educational support and unemployment. Many of those who completed secondary education are unable to further their educational career due to lack of Scholarships or supports from their families and the society at large.

He added “Those who are lucky to graduate from tertiary institutions are mostly unemployed. We kindly beseech his Excellency the Executive Governor of Zamfara state to kindly provide educational support or scholarship to Disabled students and to provide employment opportunities to Disabled graduates in an attempt to ensure self-reliance and for a better future.
Your Excellency sir he reiterated, “Some of us can be employed as teachers in our two special schools in Gusau and Gunmi, because the two special Schools are in need of more special teachers.
Some of us can also be employed into the state civil service based on our qualifications.”
“I, on behalf of my fellow people living with disabilities, implore you to kindly empower some of our Disabled youths and women especially those who don’t have certificates at hand for employment with your recent Empowerment programme of ₦10,000 monthly for male and ₦20,000 for women empowerment. This will no doubt facilitate our self reliance and reduce the menace of street begging.”
Meanwhile INN confirmed that the Governor has promised to sponsor the education of 100 of their children in quality schools including studies abroad. He equally ordered for the renovation and upgrading of their Associations’ Secretariat in Gusau.
