Still in the mood of August Meeting, the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Barr Lady Chioma Uzodimma has paid a friendly visit to the inmates of Special School for the Deaf and Mentally Challenged, Orlu. Her Excellency who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Vulnerable Groups, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, commended the Management and Staff of the school for their dedication to duty and special work at the centre as she said that the Governor’s wife sent her to come and know how they were faring as well as articulate their needs for government’s due attention.
Ugwu reminded the workforce that the Shared Prosperity government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma had their welfare at heart because the vulnerable groups, such as the deaf and intellectual disabilities were also Citizens of Imo State. She assured them of more visits as their needs will be handled accordingly.
Handing over food items such as bags of rice, beans, garri, oil and other food items, the Commissioner prayed God to bless the Pupils and Staff of the Special School, as she wished the Senior Class pupils of the school success in their upcoming First School Leaving Certificate Examination.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Justina Iwuoha expressed gratitude to the State Government especially the Governor’s Wife for the kind gesture and prayed for their long life.
Taking the Commissioner and her team round the School, Mrs. Iwuoha said they have over 250 inmates, that is, boys, girls, and elderly, while they have male and female dormitories respectively. The Headmistress used the occasion to call on government’s assistance in repairing their dormitories and buildings, purchase of sewing machines for handiwork, vehicle for their outings, music player for the intellectual disabilities, while she pleaded that about 12 casual workers including graduates who are helping at the centre be given permanent employment.
