In a significant step forward for the welfare of Nigeria’s injured and disabled servicemen and servicewomen, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the African Unconquered Foundation.
The MOU, signed at a ceremony in Abuja, embodies a shared vision of honoring, rehabilitating, and reintegrating veterans who have dedicated themselves to Nigeria’s peace and security.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Abba Isa noted that this MOU is a commitment to restoring dignity to wounded veterans and ensuring their empowerment for social reintegration.
“These brave individuals have made immense sacrifices for our country’s peace and stability,” he said. “This partnership is more than a document—it is a framework for practical support and resources that will help our veterans rebuild their lives and attain personal empowerment.”
The agreement, he explained, sets a foundation for his office to offer a holistic support system, including job opportunities, welfare services, advocacy, and robust monitoring and evaluation efforts.
Hon. Abba Isa extended gratitude to the African Unconquered Foundation, remarking, “The Foundation’s mission aligns with our goals, and together, we are creating pathways for veterans to reclaim their lives and thrive.”
Mr. Derrick Cobbinah, CEO and Co-founder of the African Unconquered Foundation, also spoke, noting that the Foundation has a history of impactful work across Africa, especially among disadvantaged and marginalized communities. He emphasized that this partnership will provide a comprehensive response to the unique challenges facing Nigeria’s wounded servicemen and women.
“Our alliance is built on mutual respect and a shared purpose,” he said. “Together, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have given selflessly to our nation.”
The event concluded with both parties expressing hope and commitment to ensuring that veterans receive the necessary support for a smooth transition back to civilian life. This MOU, they agreed, sets a meaningful precedent in honoring those who have sacrificed so much for Nigeria.
