At the 1st National Council on Sports held from May 20th to 22nd, 2024 Enugu state Nigeria. A groundbreaking decision was reached to elevate the status of Deaf sports within the national sporting landscape.
The committee unanimously agreed to include at least three Deaf sports as compulsory events, marking a pivotal shift from optional to permanent status at the forthcoming National Sport Festival in Ogun state, scheduled for January 2025.
This decision represents a momentous achievement for the Nigeria Deaf Sports Federation (NDSF) and the nation as a whole, positioning Nigeria as a leader in promoting inclusivity and recognizing the talents of Deaf athletes not only within Africa but on the global stage.
Alhaji Dagbo Suleiman Saka, President of NDSF, in his speech expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Honourable Minister for Sport and Development, the Permanent Secretary, the Sport Council, directors, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and commitment during the council meeting.
Addressing the Deaf community, Alhaji Saka emphasized the significance of this milestone, urging unity and determination in seizing the opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s prowess in Deaf sports. He underscored the collective responsibility to demonstrate to the Nation, Africa, and the world that Nigeria Deaf Sport is poised for greatness and ready to bring glory to the Nation.
