The Empowerment Initiative of Persons with Disabilities (EIPD) has called on the Niger State Government and relevant stakeholders to establish a Children with Disabilities Care Centre to support vulnerable children living with disabilities across the state.
The organisation said many children with disabilities in the state continue to face neglect, inadequate healthcare, limited access to rehabilitation and education, as well as insufficient social support services. According to the group, families caring for such children also struggle with limited resources and the absence of proper facilities to meet their daily needs.
EIPD noted that establishing a dedicated care centre would provide protection, treatment, educational opportunities, rehabilitation, and empowerment for children with special needs. The group added that the initiative would also promote inclusion and reflect the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every child regardless of their condition.
The organisation further appealed to government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and well-meaning individuals to support the humanitarian initiative, expressing confidence that the proposed centre would help create a brighter future for vulnerable children and their families throughout Niger State.
