Governor Obiano Bags Friends of Persons with Disabilities Award from UNN

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state was yesterday, Tuesday recognized and Awarded, Friends of persons with disabilities by the University of Nigeria, as part of events marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities organized by the Special Education unit of the prestigious Institution.

Presenting the Award on behalf of the institution, the Arch Bishop of Enugu Eclesiastical province, His grace most Rev. E O Chukwuka praised Governor Willie Obiano’s unalloyed support towards the welfare of persons with Disabilities as demonstrated in his inclusive administration whereby Persons with Disabilities have been empowerment to positions of leadership where most people think they can’t Excel. He appreciated his Excellency for appointing a Special adviser on Disability Matters, about 2 persons with Disabilities as permanent Secretaries in the state civil service, as well as employment and empowerment scheme being run by his administration.

Receiving the award on behalf of His Excellency, the special adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters, Barr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie, represented by the special assistant to the Governor on sign language communication, Mr. Joseph Collins, expressed appreciation to the management of the institution for recognizing the excellent performance of his Excellency towards reducing inequalities being faced by Persons with Disabilities in Anambra state while assuring them that the award will spur his Excellency to do more for the Anambra state Disability Community towards achieving the provisions of the Sustainable Development goals(SDGs) of vision 2030.

In his remarks, the vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles igwe represented by the Deputy vice Chancellor,(Administration) prof. Patrick Okpoko, pledged support to the Special Education unit,of the institution,so as to meet the quality educational needs of students with Disabilities.
