Gov. OBIANO RECEIVES NIGERIA’s BEST DEAF-FRIENDLY GOVERNOR AWARD

The Executive Governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano,was yesterday 3rd November 2017 conferred with an award as the BEST DEAF-FRIENDLY GOVERNOR IN NIGERIA, by the Nigeria National Association of the Deaf, Anambra state Chapter. This was done as part of the activities marking the celebration of 1st Deaf Awareness Week celebrations in Anambra State. The chairman of the Deaf association Mr Polycarp udeagu, was full of appreciation to the governor for appointing a special assistant to the Governor on sign language communication, free transportation for all persons with disabilities, free education for the Deaf, as well as approving funds for the celebration of the Deaf awareness day.

The Governor represented by the SSA on Disability matters, Barr Chuks Ezewuzie, also received a portrait painting of the Governor from a Deaf artist Mr uchenna. The SSA to the governor on Disability matters and SSA on special schools Mrs IFY Enekwechi, also received an award from the association for their unalloyed support to the Deaf community and clamour for full inclusiveness, high points of the event was the exhibition of various items produced by Deaf persons which includes a locally made tipper driven from onitsha to Awka, paintings from Deaf artists, items produced with beads,  liquid soap, and furniture. The theme of this year’s Deaf awareness week is FULL INCLUSION WITH SIGN LANGUAGE.
