The newly elected State Executive committee of Gombe State Association of the Deaf, (GOMSAD) under the leadership of Mr Blessed Charles, has begun the push for revitalization of the structure of Deaf leadership across the Association’s eleven Local Government Branches of the State.
This development, INN learnt was in part fulfillment of campaign promises made to members of the association going into the December 2022 elections which ushered in the current executives.
In a statement signed by newly elected GOMSAD secretary general, Safiyanu Ibrahim Bappah, the association’s scribe wrote: “On Saturday 11th February, 2023, the electoral committee assigned by Kwami Association of the Deaf, KAD, (a recognized branch of GOMSAD) in its effort to ensure emergence of a new set of Deaf leaders at grassroots level, successfully and peacefully conducted an election by consensus for Kwami Association of the Deaf (KAD). The entire process was officially observed by Abdulkadir Turaki, Coordinator, Gombe North, Gombe State Association of the Deaf.
Bappah noted that: “the election, the first in Kwami Local Government Association of the Deaf was conducted with 15 delegates who decided the fate of two contestants Yusuf Danladi and Musa Salisu – both vying for the position of Chairman. At the end, Musa Salisu emerged winner”
According to Bappah: “the remaining positions were not contested owing to absence of contestants who purchase nomination forms”.
He further noted that the newly elected chairman will work together with all stakeholders of KAD to fill the vacant positions.
Bappah congratulated Musa Salisu, the new KAD chairman on behalf of GOMSAD Executives under the leadership of Comrade Charles and wished him success. Meanwhile he advised Salisu to be fully prepared to take up responsibilities and challenges of the high offices and to serve the people diligently”.
GOMSAD chairman, Mr Blessed Charles charged the newly elected chairman of Kwami Association of the Deaf to entrench the culture of equity and fairness in the discharge of his official functions.
His words: ” I congratulate the newly elected chairman of Kwami Association of the Deaf, Musa Salisu”
‘”I urge him to ensure fairness and equity to all his members in his administration. He should also employ the means of consensus to select qualified members to fill the vacant positions for convenient and transparent transformation of his new administration even as we look to restructure the association for the betterment of members”.
“Under my leadership as a chairman of GOMSAD, I will give him open hands to work together and I also pray that Almighty God grant him wisdom to guide his people to the promise land and to leave KAD better than he met it”, he concluded.
