The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Board has embarked on a study tour to the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD), describing the state as a model for disability inclusion and institutional development in Nigeria.
The visit, which took place on Monday, June 8, 2026, was aimed at learning from the achievements and best practices of the Gombe State Commission. Established just seven months ago, the Zamfara PWD Board selected Gombe as the first destination for its study tour due to the remarkable strides recorded by the Commission under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Ishiyaku Adamu.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, Alhaji Usman Ahmad Nahuche, commended the Gombe Commission for its impressive achievements within a short period. He noted that the Commission’s success has attracted national recognition and positioned Gombe State as a leading example of disability inclusion in the country.
Nahuche also praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment to the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities, describing the appointment of Ishiyaku Adamu as Executive Chairman of the Commission as a strategic decision that has yielded positive results.
According to him, under Adamu’s leadership, the Commission has become one of the most effective and respected disability institutions in Nigeria, making it a natural choice for Zamfara State’s first official study tour.
The Zamfara delegation further expressed admiration for the peace, beauty, and rapid development of Gombe State, attributing the progress to purposeful leadership and people-oriented policies.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Ishiyaku Adamu, welcomed the delegation and thanked them for choosing Gombe as their preferred destination for institutional learning and collaboration.
Adamu highlighted key achievements recorded by the Commission, including policy development, institutional strengthening, disability rights advocacy, promotion of accessibility, expansion of partnerships, and the creation of greater opportunities for persons with disabilities across the state.
He attributed the successes to the unwavering support of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration, he said, has demonstrated a strong commitment to the empowerment, protection, and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
The visit also featured interactive sessions between officials of both institutions, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences, and practical strategies for advancing disability rights and inclusion. Stakeholders noted that the engagement further reinforces Gombe State’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in disability inclusion and a benchmark for other states seeking to strengthen disability governance.
