As economic hardship continues to affect vulnerable populations across Nigeria, the Aredu Development and Empowerment Foundation has distributed food items and clothing to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and disadvantaged youths in Osogbo, Osun State.
Speaking during the outreach programme, the Convener of the foundation, Mr. Muritala Adebayo, said the initiative was aimed at providing relief and restoring hope to individuals facing increasing socio-economic challenges. He noted that rising inflation, unemployment and insecurity have further worsened the living conditions of many persons with disabilities, who often encounter barriers to healthcare, education, mobility and other essential services.
Adebayo explained that the intervention forms part of the foundation’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to promote inclusion and improve the welfare of vulnerable members of society. He disclosed that more than 40 beneficiaries received food supplies and clothing during the exercise, adding that the programme was designed to uphold dignity and strengthen community support.
The foundation also called on governments at all levels, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to intensify support for persons with disabilities amid the prevailing economic challenges. According to Adebayo, addressing the needs of vulnerable groups requires stronger partnerships, sustained interventions and collective action from all stakeholders.
He appealed to donors, volunteers and organisations to support the foundation through financial contributions, equipment donations, skills acquisition programmes and strategic collaborations capable of creating lasting opportunities for beneficiaries.
“We believe that supporting vulnerable people is not just an act of charity but a responsibility that advances justice, inclusion and economic empowerment,” Adebayo said.
He further appreciated sponsors and partners, including Oguntolu Akinlana Osunmurewa, for their contributions to the successful execution of the outreach programme.
One of the beneficiaries, Adeleke Adebambo, commended the foundation for remembering persons with disabilities during a period of widespread economic hardship. He urged government authorities to move beyond promises by implementing policies and programmes that would create a more enabling environment for persons with disabilities.
Adebambo observed that despite increasing advocacy efforts, many persons with disabilities continue to face neglect, exclusion and limited access to opportunities.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining programmes that provide practical assistance and empowerment opportunities for persons with disabilities and vulnerable youths in Nigeria and the diaspora.
“We rise by lifting others,” the foundation stated.
