The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing disability inclusion across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as part of efforts to promote inclusive governance and equal opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
This was the focus of a strategic meeting between the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, in Abuja.
The meeting explored ways to strengthen collaboration among government institutions to ensure that policies, programmes and interventions adequately reflect the needs and aspirations of PWDs. Discussions also centered on improving accessibility, social protection and equal participation for vulnerable groups in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the engagement, the SGF reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to mainstream disability inclusion across MDAs and ensure that governance processes are accessible and inclusive.
Abba Isa, in turn, highlighted ongoing efforts by his office to promote disability-friendly policies through partnerships with civil society groups, development partners and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities.
The presidential aide also commended the Office of the SGF for its continued support, noting that the collaboration would further strengthen efforts aimed at advancing accessibility, empowerment and inclusive national development for Persons with Disabilities across the country.
