Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday celebrated the 2026 Children’s Day with children from diverse backgrounds across Nigeria, including young disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja.
The event formed part of activities marking this year’s Children’s Day celebration and provided a platform to promote inclusion, child development, and equal access to quality education for all Nigerian children. Participants drawn from different schools and communities engaged with the minister in a symbolic gathering that highlighted the importance of investing in the future of the nation’s children.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Alausa described Children’s Day as an opportunity to reaffirm the collective responsibility of government, parents, and stakeholders to nurture and empower every child through education and social support. He noted that every Nigerian child deserves to be seen, heard, encouraged, and supported to achieve their dreams regardless of background or circumstance.
The minister paid special tribute to Dera Osadebe for her advocacy efforts in promoting awareness, inclusion, and acceptance of children living with disabilities and autism. He said her courage and passion continue to inspire important conversations on empathy, equal opportunity, and inclusive development across the country.
Alausa added that the celebration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusive education, child development, and youth empowerment. He encouraged children to believe in their abilities and pursue their aspirations with confidence.
The Ministry of Education also reaffirmed its commitment to advancing policies and programmes that promote inclusive education, safe learning environments, and equal opportunities for children across Nigeria, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.
