The Nigerian management of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), an international fast-food restaurant chain has responded to the invitation for an investigation into the discrimination against Debola Daniel, son of Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun state at KFC MMIA2 Lagos State.
The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) had on Friday, 29 March, 2024 in a correspondence signed on behalf of the Commission by the Director of Enforcement and Compliance Department, NCPWD, Ikem Uchegbulam Exq, summoned KFC to an investigation panel of enquiry to critically address the issues.
In March, Debola narrated his experience at the MMIA branch of KFC via his social media handle disclosing that the restaurant had stopped him and his family from entering, stating that “no wheelchairs were allowed.”
In a swift response, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) shut down KFC at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, over discrimination incident and ordered KFC to issue a public apology to Debola.
The fast-food outlet later apologised to Debola.
The Executive Secretary, Dr James David Lalu in a statement issued yesterday, said KFC Nigeria has honored the invitation for an investigation into the incident.
He noted that “the management of KFC corporated with the investigating team of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities- NCPWD, Nigeria and more facts emerged.
According to him, “the second session will follow next week and the public will be duly informed of the findings and appropriate legal steps taken to address the issue and redefine the concept of inclusive business at KFC.”
