ABUJA, Nigeria — The Planning Committee of the African Inclusive Economic Summit has sought strategic collaboration with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) as preparations intensify for the forthcoming summit scheduled to hold in London.
The Committee made this known during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where discussions focused on strengthening partnerships and ensuring disability inclusion remains central to the Summit’s agenda.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee, Susan Ihuoma said the engagement forms part of a broader stakeholder consultation process aimed at delivering a truly inclusive economic platform for Africa.
She emphasised that the Summit is designed to promote inclusive economic growth across the continent, adding that the interests, rights, and contributions of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) must be fully integrated into policy conversations and development frameworks.
According to Ihuoma, sustainable economic development cannot be achieved without deliberate inclusion of marginalised groups, particularly PWDs, stressing the need for policies that guarantee access, participation, and empowerment.
Deliberations during the meeting also highlighted opportunities for advancing disability-inclusive economic policies, fostering strategic alliances, and expanding access to economic opportunities for PWDs across Africa.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Ayuba Burki Gufwan, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities and inclusive development.
He assured the Committee of NCPWD’s readiness to collaborate with the Summit organisers to ensure meaningful representation and active participation of PWDs at the London event.
The African Inclusive Economic Summit is expected to convene policymakers, development partners, private sector leaders, and advocacy groups from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on actionable strategies for inclusive growth and economic empowerment.
The Summit is positioned as a premier platform for advancing inclusive economic policies and practices, with a strong focus on empowering underserved and marginalised communities.
