The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships that advance disability inclusion, pledging technical support to the Sauri Growth Initiatives for Women and Youth with Disabilities in the implementation of programmes targeted at empowering women and young persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, made the commitment on Tuesday while receiving the Founder of Sauri Growth Initiatives, Miss Comfort Ekwo, and her delegation during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Gufwan said the Commission remains committed to collaborating with credible organisations whose vision aligns with its mandate of promoting inclusion, accessibility, equal opportunities, and the full participation of persons with disabilities in national development. He noted that strategic partnerships are essential to expanding opportunities and improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities nationwide.
Commending Miss Ekwo for her dedication to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, the Executive Secretary encouraged the organisation to sustain its advocacy and community-based interventions.
“The Commission is ready to provide technical support and explore areas of collaboration that will enhance the lives of women and youth with disabilities across the country,” he said.
Earlier, the Founder of Sauri Growth Initiatives, Miss Comfort Ekwo, explained that the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration with the Commission to deepen disability inclusion in Nigeria. She applauded the NCPWD for its leadership in promoting inclusive policies and programmes and reaffirmed her organisation’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s vision.
According to her, the visit sought to establish a sustainable partnership with the Commission, secure technical support for programmes focused on the empowerment and inclusion of women and youth with disabilities, and express appreciation for the Commission’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and advancing the interests of persons with disabilities across the country.
The meeting ended with both organisations reaffirming their resolve to strengthen collaboration in promoting disability inclusion, sustainable development, and equal opportunities for all persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
