The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Peace for Humanity Foundation to mobilize ₦70 billion for the establishment of farm cities aimed at empowering Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria.
The proposal was officially presented on 22nd August 2025 at the Commission’s headquarters. Receiving the delegation, the Executive Secretary, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and full inclusion for the disability community.
He emphasized that “it is established beyond reasonable doubt that there is ability in disability,” noting that PWDs possess extraordinary talents, energy, and resourcefulness that can significantly contribute to national development.
The Executive Secretary also highlighted Nigeria’s projected population growth to nearly 300 million within the next 25–30 years, stressing that food security will remain a national priority. He called for collective efforts, including active participation of persons with disabilities, to build a self-reliant and food-secure nation.
Unlike conventional farms, the farm cities will integrate agricultural production with social and economic programs, creating multiple opportunities for empowerment and inclusion.
The initiative enjoys the royal patronage of HRH Aminu Ado-Bayero, Emir of Kano, and strong financial backing from AA Rano, reflecting national support for this vision of inclusion, unity, and sustainable development.
Hon. Ayuba Gufwan assured that the Commission will work hand-in-hand with the Foundation to deliver this landmark program and fully integrate PWDs into Nigeria’s agricultural and economic growth.
