The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) marked World Wheelchair Day by donating manual wheelchairs to Persons With Physical Disabilities (PWPD), reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusivity and improved mobility.
General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, acknowledged the Lagos State Ministry of Health for its support and stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in advancing accessibility. She also emphasized this year’s theme, which highlights how wheelchairs empower users by fostering independence and social integration.
The event underscored the need for improved wheelchair-friendly infrastructure, with Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal urging institutions and property owners to prioritize accessibility. Beneficiaries, including disability care homes and individuals, expressed gratitude for the donation, recognizing its role in enhancing their daily lives.
This initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive society and ensure that persons with disabilities receive the support they need to lead independent lives.
