The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, on February in Abuja said that the National Assembly would transmit the Disability Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari within 30 days for assent, INN reports from Source.
The Federal Government says the long-awaited National Disabilities Bill will be passed into law within 3 weeks.
The special senior assistant to the president on disability matters, Dr. Samuel Ankeli, made the disclosure during a media chat organized by his office for women with disabilities in Abuja, INN gathered
Delivering the keynote speech at the event, which was organized to mark the 107th anniversary of the International Women’s day (IWD), Dr. Ankeli said the leadership of the National Assembly had assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the bill would be ready for his assent by the end of the month.
He thanked the president for giving a voice to millions of PWD’s in the country, and urged Nigerians to pay special attention to issues concerning women living with disabilities.
Other speakers at the event, which included PWD’s from all walks of life, focused on critical issues, such as education, employment, political participation, as well as information access for women with disabilities.
Ms. Juliet Nehfi,  a visually impaired participant, called for an improvement in the architectural designs of public buildings to make them more easily accessible to PWD’s.
For Ms. Salome Paul Garba, giving women with disabilities quality education was a critical key to their empowerment.
Mrs. Hafsat Bello urged disabled women to do more to change age-old mind-sets and prejudices within the family and the larger society.
INN had earlier report on issue  concerning the Disability bill with the Senate President expressing his at the mishandling of the bill. He felt disappointed to learn that due to some administrative mishaps, the Bill, which passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives,  failed to make its way out of the National Assembly system.
