Executive Director, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), Mr. David Anyaele, made the call in Awka during a Press Conference as part of the campaign on equal voting access for persons with Disabilities.
Mr. Anyaele explained that the essence of the campaign is to partner with relevant stakeholders to kick against all forms of discrimination and marginalization of persons with Disabilities during the upcoming guber elections in Anambra state and elections in the country at large.
The CCD boss who highlighted some of their lined up activities to include, interface with officials of INEC, Political Parties, Security agents and the media, among others, to sensitize them on areas of intervention and key roles expected to play during elections, called on INEC to ensure that over six hundred thousand people with one form of disability or the other in the state participate actively during the election.
In his remark, the Chairman Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Lawrence Nwanolue, enjoined the members of the State Assembly to see to the passage of the Disability Rights Bill which according to him, has passed the first and second reading.
The press Conference also witnessed the presence of the General Secretary, Committee for Defense of Human Rights in Nigeria, Comrade James Chikwendu, the Secretary JONAPWD, Anambra State chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke and the Acting Woman Leader JONAPWD, Miss. Ncheta Nwanokwala, among others.
