The Clement Abonyi Foundation, in collaboration with South-East Nigeria Deaf Association (SENDA), has commenced a training program to empower Southeast Deaf leaders with the right set of leadership skills needed to foster effective administration, peace and progress in the zone.

The training, according to Mrs Agatha Ugwu- Olaniyi, CAF representative, is in furtherance of the foundation’s mission aimed at building capacities of Deaf leaders in Nigeria for effective leadership roles in their communities.

The two-day training programme held in Choice Hotel, Awka, Anambra State had some 35 participants made of state, zonal executives and youths from all states of the south east region.

Sir Clement Abonyi, founder of CAF, also doubles as the Chairman, Board of Trustee, Southeast Nigeria Deaf Association (SENDA), charged the leaders to imbibe the culture of selfless, people oriented and accountable servant leaders to transform their communities with the new skills and knowledge the training would expose them to.

He thanked SENDA and other partners for their supports even as he charged deaf leaders to desist from conflict of interests and work together to achieve common goals.

Dr Gabriel Soje, a facilitator at the program took participants through various leadership styles and skills well laced with interactives.

Other core lectures delivered included “Financial Management: The foremost tasks of effective leadership”, by Mrs Agatha Ugwu-Olaniyi, “Conflict resolution in an Organisation” by Barrister Peter Mokene and “Proposal development and Management” by Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke.

There were testimonies among participants of positive impact of the training.

Earlier, the foundation had organised similar training in the southwest where deaf leaders in the zone were trained on use of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to achieve leadership skills.
