Ann Ojugo, the chairperson of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, (JONAPWD), Edo State chapter was honoured with a noble woman of the year award.
The award is in recognition of her commitment to promoting peace and empowerment of youths and women in Nigeria.
The award was presented to her in an event organised by BA Global Consult on 27 May, 2024.
In an interview with Inclusive News Network, Ojugo noted that the award will spur her to do more, and be more committed to the cause and well being of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
“As a person with disabilities, the award has further improved my mental capacity, and strengthen my self esteem.
“Persons with disabilities should have a resilient spirit and be determined to succeed in life.
They should put the disability behind them and move forward bearing in mind, that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. And when there is life there is hope. They should strive to work harder because there is dignity in labour.” She said
The wheelchair user tasks government to provide an enabling environment, and basic infrastructure for persons with disabilities to thrive.
She also urged other organisations including organisations manned by person with disabilities to let love be at the centre of what they do, show empathy and be transparent in their dealings.
