The Honorable Commissioner for Education for Akwa-Ibom State, Pastor Alexander Udofia, has reaffirmed the State Government’s resolve for the effectual passage, assent and implementation of the Inclusive Education (IE) Policy.
He said this through his representative, the Director Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education, Elder Nkere-uwem Ikon, at a 1-day Multilogue held on August 31 , 2017 in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, which had in attendance representative of the State Honourable Commissioners for Education, Women Affairs, Justice; State SUBEB, Secondary Education Board, Principal, Ministry of Education, Special Education Centre and other stakeholders.
The meeting which was convened by the Inclusive Education Cluster led by JONAPWD aimed to present the second draft of the Akwa-Ibom State IE policy to stakeholders and members of the public for comments, critique, contributions, inputs and adaptation of the Policy framework.
In reaffirming the government’s support to IE, the Director said that there will be a visible evidence of IE in the education of children with disabilities when school resumes in September 2017, as the Ministry had recently employed more special education teachers to further support students with special needs. He pledged support to implement the policy in the state IEPDC to draw up an implementation strategy of the Akwa-Ibom IE Policy.
