The founder of the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities International (ERPDI), Eric Ufom, has called for a follow-up on the Disability bill by concerned stakeholders in other to facilitate its passage, INN reports
Ufom made this call through the massage posted on his facebook page. He post thus: “Senate President’s Promise to within 30 days find and send the Nigerians with Disabilities Rights Bill for signing into law is not enough to seat and wait for him.”
Ufom quoted the NDC’s Clarion call to the Disability matter, “PLEASE JOIN OUR CALL FOR PEACEFUL DIPLOMATIC ACTIONS” BECAUSE;
“IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO SUCCEED FASTER AND YOU ARE ONE THE MEMBERS OF OUR NIGERIANS WITH DISABILITY VILLAGE SQUARE”
Nigerians with Disabilities Caucus (NDC) was for the one Session Ad Hoc Committee for the Nigerians with Disabilities Rights Bill
Ufom said, “We call each Disability Rights stakeholders and cluster groups, to without further delays plan and engage in Massive Advocacy/Activism and negotiations with Federal Government of Nigeria throughout the Months of March/April, 2018 until the Nigerians with Disabilities Rights Bill is signed into law with an essential, independent Implementation COMMISSION.”
“Just because the Senate President Bukola Saraki promised to find the missing bill and send it to President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into law, does not guarantee, what he said will be done as he said it. We need every Stakeholder or clusters to plan and take actions because it takes a Village to succeed easily”, he warned.
Ufom explained that to succeed in any kind of Advocacy/Activism for Disability Policy Changes, It MUST be a Continuous Process because, a one off process don’t get any good result(s). It is the reason why Nigeria, despite being the World’s most educated/lawyers nation of persons with disabilities, but since the year 2000-present, they were not able to succeed in advocating and negating with the Federal Government of Nigeria to truly Implement the Convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities.
