The special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters Barr. Chukwuka Ezewuzie expresses gratitude to his Excellency Chief Dr. Sir. Willie Obiano for prioritizing persons with Disabilities in his policies and His Wife Chief Dr. Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for remembering indigent members of the society in her recent project for the poor.
Barr. Ezewuzie said this while receiving the leaders of the state chapter of the joint national association of persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) who came to brief him on the successful distribution of palliatives to the Disability community across the 21 local government area of the state.
“It was indeed a moment of joy when all the co-ordinators of the 21 LGAs accounted for the successful distribution of the palliatives they received on behalf of the indigent persons with disabilities in their localities.”
The palliatives which were provided by the Executive Governor of Anambra state His Excellency Chief Dr Willie Obiano(OGUGUO NDI OLUSI) and the National Chairman of APGA Dr. Victor Ike Oye (Ozomkpu) was aimed at cushoning the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and its related challenges to persons with disabilities in the state.
The special Adviser to the Governor on Disability matters Bar.Chukwuka Ezewuzie had charged them to target mainly the most indigent members of different Disability groups in the state.
He briefed them on how to stay safe and encouraged them to pass on the information to all co-ordinators for grassroot dissemination.
He also reminded them
to emphasize and encourage the disability leaders at the LGAs to continue with their sensitization to their subjects on all the recommended precautional measures that will help them to avoid contacting the deadly virus.
Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, the state chairman of JONAPWD who was accompanied by comrade, Nwagwu Amobi and Comrade, Okanmelu Ernest, the state chairmen of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf and National Association of the Blind respectively extolled the magnanimities of the Governor and that of the National leadership of APGA for remembering Persons with Disabilities this time they needed their intervention most.
Back in April, the leadership of JONAPWD accompanied by Disability group cluster heads visited the various LGAs with relief items such as bags of rice, noddles, bottles of sanitizers and cash for transporting the items recieved to the beneficiaries.
Communication during the visit was made simple by Mr. Collins Joseph,the Special Assistant to the governor on sign language communication.
