Ghana Deaf Sports Federation has called for recognition of Deaf sports as independent institution in the country.
The call was made by the vice President of Ghana Deaf Sports Federation, GDSF, Mr. Kingsley K. Asah during the stakeholders forum for the consideration of Legislative drafting of Ghana Sports Act 2016 (934).
The meeting oganized by Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ghana was attended by various national federations including Ghana Blind Sports Association among others.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kingsley K. Asah implored upon authorities to recognize Deaf Sports as an independent institution which is under the control of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf(ICSD); the World governing body of Deaf Sports from where Ghana derives mandate to develop, supervise and promote Deaf sports.
He proposed that since the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana is an entity on its own that manages Para-Sports, Deaf Sports should be granted same kind of autonomy to manage sports in the community.
Deputy SG of GDSF; Mr. Bernard S.K. Kumah also pushed for recognition of Deaflympics in the National Sports Act 2016 (934).
A proposal for the establishment of a sole body responsible for the management and administration of Disabled Sports in Ghana was made to the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Ghana.
