NBA Election: SAN Pledges To Get ALDIN Represented In NEC, Push For Full Implementation of Disability Act

Deacon Dele Adesina, SAN held a zoom meeting with the members of the Association of Lawyers with Disabilities in Nigeria (ALDIN).

This comes on the heels of Adesina’s campaign to become the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at the forthcoming national elections.

At the meeting, Adesina categorically promised to do the following, among others, for lawyers with disabilities:

Getting members of the association represented in NEC.

Creating a forum for lawyers with disabilities in the NBA in the similitude of the Young Lawyers Forum and Female lawyers Forum.

Ensure that lawyers with disabilities are well represented at the branch level

Lead the NBA to push for the full implementation of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act.

Lead the NBA to advocate for accessibility of public buildings in Nigeria.

In reaction to the campaign promises, a member of the association drew his attention to the fact that the current President of the NBA made similar promises when he was campaigning, but fulfilled none of them. He then asked him how they can be sure that, if he (Adesina) becomes President, that all his promises would not go the way of those of his predecessor.

In response, Adesina told them that he is a different person, and that he will definitely fulfill his promises, if given the chance to become the President of the NBA.

The meeting was attended by ALDIN members from across the country, including, the President of ALDIN, Daniel Onwe Esq., the States Chapter Chairmen of ALDIN, the Chair of the United Nations Committee on Persons with Disabilities, Danlami Basharu Esq., and the Nigerian Programme Officer of Disability Rights Fund (DRF), Theophilus Odaudu.
