It’s always a beautiful moment when couples, taking the marital vow in a solemn ceremony profess to “love and cherish until…” However, there are a number of circumstances when the beauty and emotions of such moments nears the sublime.
Such was the case on Friday April 23rd, 2021 when the bride, an embodiment of beauty (though on wheelchair) glided down the aisle with the love of her life to say the sacred “I do”.
The Disability Community in Nigeria witnessed over the weekend one of the finest and emotionally charged celebrations of love when one of the her beauty queen, Irene Patrick-Ogbogu took marital vows with Christopher Lorsange Orafa at a grand ceremony well attended by various CSOs, OPDs, along with families and well wishers.
The audience spilled with palpable emotions as the elegant Christopher, beaming radiant smiles, led the way down the aisle with his darling sweetheart gracefully wheeling beside him.
It was a moment not to be forgotten in a hurry for it spoke volumes of the supremacy of love over circumstances.
The high point of the ceremony was the taking of marital vows. A visibly moved audience were on their feet as they struggled to catch glimpses of the couple affirm “I do” at the overcrowded event that had many standing for lack of space.

“I love you beyond what words can say, I will always be by your side and will always cherish and adore you”, those were the romantic words from the groom.
The officiating minister admonished the new couple to always stick to each other, avoiding a third party so their marriage can stand the test of time.
Chairman of the day, Sir. Bright Ekweremmadu, gave similar advice to the newly weds and prayed that the marriage would be blessed with all the things that make a good marriage, including fruits of the womb. In his words, in no distance time, we will gather again to celebrate a child.
There was entertainment, dances and games at the occasion which really spiced things up.
The Disability Community in attendance at the event was led by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr. James Lalu, Ekaete Umoh, President, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Grace Jerry, Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association, etc. Also in attendance were the Ag. Director, Special Duties, NCPWD, Lawrence Idemudia, Lois Auta, Executive Director, Cedar Seeds Foundation, Theophilus Odaudu, Program Officer, Disability Rights Fund DRF, Susan Kelechi, JONAPWD FCT Chapter, Publicity Secretary, Obinna Ekujereonye, Beatrice Mube, Executive Director, Mimijean Foundation with many others who came out to grace this wonderful moment in disability community.
Yet another exceptional feature of the wedding day was its being on same day with the bride’s birthday.
