As a humanitarian gesture to cushion the effect of Covid-19 on Persons with Disabilities, Gombe Local Council Development Area Chairman, Alh. Ali Usman Haruna, on Friday 24th December distributed food items to the Deaf indigenes of the State.
The Chairman, Association of the Deaf, Gombe Local Government (ADGLG), Comrade Nura Bashir who disclosed this to Inclusive News Network, was full of praise for Hon. Ali Usman Haruna for the humanitarian gesture.
His words: “I am very happy with Hon Alh. Ali Usman Haruna, Chairman of Gombe Local Government Council for putting smiles on the face of our people at this period of serious economic crisis. Prices of commodities, especially food stuffs have skyrocketed leaving our members neglected and vulnerable in the society”
“Without fear of contradiction, I can say this is the first time since creation of Gombe Local Government that an executive chairman of the council will be identifying with the sufferings of Deaf indigenes.
“Our people will forever remain indebted to Hon Alh. Ali Usman Haruna for this noble gesture worth of emulation by other leaders within the State.
On his part, the Secretary General of ADGLG, Zakariya Mohammed Umar, expressed immense gratitude to the entire staff and management of Gombe Local Government Council.
Umar described them as the pivot behind this “first of its kind” distribution of palliatives to the Deaf indigenes of the council.
Items distributed includes 20 bags of maize, 60 bags of guinea corn, seasoning, 100 bags of garri and packs of edible salt.
Efforts to reach Hon Alh. Ali Usman Haruna and his aide on the issue proved abortive at the time of writing this report.
