The Bauchi State Deaf Muslim Community has requested the State Governor, Bala Abdulkhadir Mohammed to set up an Islamiyya school for Deaf persons in Bauchi State.

The request, according to Mallam Hisham Shu’aibu Sambo Luti, Secretary General of Alfurqan Deaf Islamic Da’awah Association, Bauchi State branch, was made to the Governor in the wake of serious decline in Islamic religious knowledge within the Deaf community.

Luti complains that the situation negatively affects spiritual development of Deaf muslims in the State.

He said: “most of our Deaf Muslim brethren have problems with religious education. This is why we want an Islamiyya school for the Deaf in Bauchi State. This will enable our Deaf brethren learn the basic tenets, values and commandments of Islamic religion.”

Luti further stresses that, “nowadays having certification in Islamic religious education is an important qualification that pays more than a western certificate. This why we want the Governor to establish such center in the State.”

The secretary-general called on Muslim scholars and faithfuls in the State to contribute towards, support and encourage the Deaf Muslim community to achieve this objective.

He lamented that there was no Islamic school for the Deaf in the entire State. According to him, such breeds ignorance among Deaf muslims across Bauchi State.

“Even while we depend on Western Education, the Deaf community’s lack of religious knowledge is quite disturbing and worrisome ”,He said

In conclusion, he urged youths to be supportive of the incumbent administration under Governor Bala. He expressed optimism that Government will continue to do its best by adding value to its citizens”
